It is getting tougher, not easier, for nonprofit boards to responsibly govern and for them to attract talented board candidates who meet their qualifications. When it comes to give-get policies, boards are all over the map. Some have high requirement levels while others have none. Some inconsistently apply the policies they do have while others are so rigid that it appears to prospective board members that you have to “pay to play”. As boards and individual directors are increasingly being held accountable (and potentially liable) as responsible fiduciaries, what kind of give-get practices help or hinder their responsibilities? Can these practices discourage the talented, diverse and mission passionate people nonprofits need on their board need to be successful and when do they cross the line to the detriment of good governance?

Join us for a provocative panel comprised of experienced board members, prospective boardcandidates, executive staff, and a corporate leader in the field who will discuss and debate these issues head-on.

This workshop is part of NYCON and Governance Matters'monthly series of trainings for nonprofits and their boards: Practical Solutions for Today’s Nonprofit Governance Challenges.” The trainings address a wide range of topics such as defining the expectations of board service, building leadership, improving fundraising skills and strategies and the board’s working relationship with staff leadership. They are presented by NYCON’s team of professional staff. Space is limited to provide a customized experience and meaningful interactions between participants.

The fee for this workshop is $25 for NYCON members and $40 for nonmembers. For more information or to register, visit:
